{"id":119,"date":"2017-10-12T11:13:59","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T10:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/research.shca.ed.ac.uk\/csmch\/?p=119"},"modified":"2017-10-12T11:19:43","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T10:19:43","slug":"the-csmch-announces-its-first-postdoctoral-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/research.shca.ed.ac.uk\/csmch\/2017\/10\/12\/the-csmch-announces-its-first-postdoctoral-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"The CSMCH announces its first postdoctoral fellow!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the innovations of the CSMCH has been to introduce a new 3-month <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/history-classics-archaeology\/modern-contemporary-history-centre\/apply-to-the-centre\/postdoctoral-fellowship\">visiting postdoctoral fellowship in modern and contemporary history<\/a>, in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iash.ed.ac.uk\/\">Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities<\/a> (IASH). This fellowship is designed to bring someone to Edinburgh for a short research visit. He is from Darbhanga, Bihar and studied at the universities of Delhi, Oxford and Southampton, from where he completed his PhD in 2014. His dissertation was published as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/The-Kashmir-Conflict-From-Empire-to-the-Cold-War-1945-66\/Ankit\/p\/book\/9781138654518\">Kashmir, 1945-66: From Empire to the Cold War <\/a>(Routledge, 2016) and he has also worked on the Interim Government of September 1946-August 1947 in British India.<\/p>\n<p>During the period of his fellowship, he will be working on a project entitled &#8216;Left in a Liberal Democracy: Communist Party(s) of India, 1920-1990&#8217;. This is the first part of a project that will eventually lead to a new history of Indian Communism, to be published by Hurst.<\/p>\n<p>Rakesh will be with us from early November 2017 to late January 2018, He will be organising an event while he is here and he will also present some of his research <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/history-classics-archaeology\/modern-contemporary-history-centre\/events-and-seminars\/seminar-series\">to the Centre seminar on 28 November<\/a>.
