Plato on Recognition <\/span>in the Realm of Politics: Gorgias<\/em> 513a7-c2<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The paper will deal with Plato and his concept of political recognition, as keyed to the Athenian democracy. It will examine the Gorgias<\/em> (510-14), and discuss terms relevant to political recognition in this and other of his dialogues: philotimia<\/em> (honour, or the ambition to achieve honour); hamilla<\/em> and ag\u014dn<\/em> (competition); philia<\/em> (friendship); prosphil\u0113s<\/em>\/eunoia<\/em> (goodwill); and mim\u0113sis<\/em> \/ mim\u0113t\u0113s<\/em> (emulation \/ emulator).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>
