A corollary of that claim is that ancient Greek concepts can still be used to make sense of modern phenomena. One example is that of <span style=\"color: #800000\"><em>hybris<\/em> <\/span>(or <em>hubris<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">This is the claim of the Daedalus Trust (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.daedalustrust.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.daedalustrust.com<\/a>), founded by Lord (David) Owen and others, to disseminate awareness of what they call \u2018<span style=\"color: #800000\">the hubris syndrome<\/span>\u2019 in modern society (especially among politicians).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/f1000research.com\/articles\/7-133\/v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1102 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/research.shca.ed.ac.uk\/honour-in-greece\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/05\/hybris.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"http:\/\/research.shca.ed.ac.uk\/honour-in-greece\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/05\/hybris.jpg 552w, http:\/\/research.shca.ed.ac.uk\/honour-in-greece\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/05\/hybris-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 552px) 100vw, 552px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">One of the Trust\u2019s founders, Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/kclpure.kcl.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/nick-bouras(a8e9f694-6dde-4628-8231-d58ec7fe40bd).html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Bouras<\/a> (Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience, King\u2019s College London), has recently published <a href=\"https:\/\/f1000research.com\/articles\/7-133\/v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this article<\/a>\u00a0on the prevalence of hybris (and the need for humility) among doctors and scientists<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/history-classics-archaeology\/classics\/staff-in-classics\/profile_tab1_academic.php?uun=dcairns&amp;search=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Douglas Cairns<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-1097-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-1097-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-1097-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p style=\"text-align: right\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Featured image:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">H.J.
