As one of the convenors of the Political History Research Group in HCA, I wanted to add a brief note to the blog about how we would like to use it to further the objectives of the group. The group was set up a couple of years ago to provide a forum for academics and research students working in the field of political history, broadly defined. We hoped to build links and foster a sense of common purpose, something that seems more important now than ever given the contemporary public primacy of those themes with which political historians grapple. Since 2015, members of the group have run a number of successful workshops and organised social activities; there are more events in the pipeline, and we hope to increase their frequency.
We very much hope that members of the group, whether academics or postgraduate students, will contribute to this new blog. Posts need not – indeed, should not – be very long. The snappier the better! Posts should probably run to 500 words or so, and might cover a range of formats from a summary of recent research, interesting archival findings, a historical perspective on events in the news, or anything else that you fancy. Please email submissions to the blog administrator, one of our research students, Ms Francesca Morphakis, on F.Morphakis@ed.ac.uk.
